This particular snippet of rumour has been nagging away at me ever since I read it. I really, really hope that it's true.
I'll also go annoy Bob Morrison at Taurus about the .223 pistol and his "tickle and tease" about Taurus producing a new Broomhandle Mauser...the ultimate home defense gun, you ask me!
A new production Mauser C96. How cool would that be? I wonder what calibres they would make it in? 9mm is obviously top of the line but I'm assuming that a .45ACP might also make an appearance- as it did in the original. Personally, I'd like to see a version in 9mmx23- and the ability to attach a holster-stock to turn it into a little carbine.
Now that would be a pretty nifty home defence gun!

Oh be still my heart! A Taurus C-96 would sell like hotcakes, give me one in .40 or .45 or even .223 and call it a Valentine.
There is no way that could be true. That would be just so incredibly awesome that someone will somehow stop me from having one.
It would be way-too cool and nobody loves us enough, but "they" make SAA clones by the truckload, old cap-and-ball pistols by the boat-load, and even mil-spec 1911's...heck USFA makes a 1910 and even a "Lend Lease" SAA in .45ACP - they're not cheap though.
I imagine they would sell these by the truckload if they got the pricing right- and offered them in 9mm, .40SW and .45ACP at least.
I mean, who wouldn't want a brand new Broomhandle?
Oh great! So since I don't know much about 9mm's I go over to a gunshop, and in the used-guns case are TWO C-96's one in 30-Luger and another in 9mm-Parabellum, AND there's a 1914 Artillery Luger, and a couple of P-38's!!! Arrghghgh!!! :-)
