ID Your Target

We're constantly told that the Only Ones professional enough to be armed are police officers. Well, in this case at least it seems that the off-duty officer didn't take the time to identify his target-

An off-duty New Haven police officer shot and wounded his 18-year-old daughter, apparently mistaking her for an intruder after she sneaked out of their Stratford home and re-entered through the basement.

Woken by a motion sensitive light in his back-yard, the officer grabbed his service weapon and went to investigate. He "spotted someone a person moving in the basement bathroom, police said. He fired once, shooting the teen in the knee. The bullet traveled up her leg and lodged in her thigh area, police said."

Thankfully for him he didn't kill his daughter- she's listed as being critical but stable- but it raises an important point- be sure of what you're shooting at. Especially if you don't live alone. You'd think that a highly trained and professional police officer wouldn't just shoot first and ask questions later, right? Odd that he aimed so low as to hit her in the knee- an armed intruder might have been able to return fire after being wounded like that.

So, take care when searching your home for a possible intruder, take the time to ID the target just in case it is a loved one and it would probably help to have a light attached to your home defence gun too.

Hetero Ban

Clayton Cramer seems to have been proved correct in his assertion that there an either/or choice between between homosexuality and the freedoms we take for granted.

A Melbourne gay bar has been granted an exemption from the Equal Opportunity Act in a landmark ruling which will allow security to refuse entry to heterosexuals.

VCAT deputy president Cate McKenzie claimed that allowing straight men and women into the club would defeat the purpose of the venue.

"This would undermine or destroy the atmosphere which the company wishes to create," McKenzie said.

So I guess that the gay community would be entirely supportive of a ban on homosexuals being permitted entry into heterosexual bars and clubs? I mean, all those gay people might spoil the straight atmosphere, right? And of course by the same logic, some clubs or bars could ban women, blacks, or whatever group they wanted simply because to allow them entry might spoil some intangible "atmosphere". But of course, no one would even consider such actions- it seems that homosexuals are legally permitted to be intolerant. The article also seems to imply that not only straight women but lesbian women too are banned.

I guess that homosexual men are more special than the rest of the Australian population who have to, you know, provide equal opportunities to all regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.

A Useful Idiot

Compare and contrast. This-

Venezuela's oldest private broadcaster has gone off the air, complying with an order by President Hugo Chavez that has drawn both condemnation and celebrations.

Police used water cannons to disperse stone-throwing protesters in Venezuela's capital, Caracas, shortly before Radio Caracas Television ceased broadcasting at midnight (0400 UTC Monday).

With this-

Venezuela is to give the American actor Danny Glover almost $18m (£9m) to make a film about a slave uprising in Haiti, with President Hugo Chávez hoping the historical epic will sprinkle Hollywood stardust on his effort to mobilise world public opinion against imperialism and western oppression.

Glover, 60, who starred with Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon series, and more recently with Eddie Murphy in the film DreamGirls, is a civil rights activist and supporter of Mr Chávez's radical leftwing policies

I guess Glover doesn't mind working for a dictator-in-making though. Seems an odd thing for a so-called civil rights activist to do, doesn't it? Until you factor in the "left wing" part of the equation- the left never seems to have much trouble in supporting totalitarian dictatorships that suppress opposition speech, so long as they have the right socialist credentials.

Act of War?

Something tells me that in the current political climate (political correctness meets national suicide) nothing whatsoever will be done about this.

Iran is attempting to draw up plans to strike targets in Europe and has conducted reconnaissance of European nuclear power stations, a security analyst told a meeting at Britain's parliament Tuesday.

Claude Moniquet, president of the European Strategic Intelligence and Security Center, a private think-tank in Brussels, said his organization also had evidence Tehran has increased numbers of intelligence agents across Europe.

"We have serious signals that something is under preparation in Europe," Moniquet said. "Iranian intelligence is working extremely hard to prepare its people and to prepare actions."

Surely at some point someone in a position of power will have to say "enough is enough" and risk some unpopular press in order to stop the huge bloodshed that will result if Iran is allowed to carry on unabated?

Vanishing Act

In the UK we've been warned about the threat posed by Islamic terrorists, plots have been foiled and security services tell us that thousands of people are involved. So what do we do? Let terror suspects vanish.

Three suspects held under controversial British anti-terrorism "control orders" have absconded this week, police said on Wednesday, an embarrassing blow for a key plank of Tony Blair's security strategy.

The announcement, following the disappearances of at least two other suspects last year, means that more than a quarter of those subject to the controversial orders -- imposed on suspects who are not charged with a crime -- are now missing.

This would seem to imply to someone with a functioning brain that the program isn't quite working out- and yet it seems to be business as usual.

The three were named as Lamine Adam, 26, Ibrahim Adam, 20, and Cerie Bullivant, 24. The Adams were both born in Algeria and were described as of North African origin. Bullivant was born in Britain and listed as white.

The government used to have the power to jail terrorism suspects like this but the courts have struck down the rule. Obviously the question is why were the foreign born nationals allowed to remain in the UK if they posed a threat to the British people? And if the British-born subject was such a threat why wasn't he actually monitored more closely if not actually jailed?

So long after 9/11 and 7/7, there's no excuse for amateur hour antics like this.

The Koran In Court

Someone evidently thinks that the teachings of the Koran and the Bible are similar. Too bad they haven't done the research to discover that there are big differences between what the two religious tracts teach is permissible.

So now North Carolinians can swear to tell the truth on a book that has been interpreted by its mainstream commentators as allowing for deceptive words to be spoken to unbelievers.

Of course one can argue that a Muslim swearing on a Bible does not mean that they are going to tell the truth either- but the people involved in this decision seem to be completely oblivious to the facts of the matter here.

"Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and only lie to safeguard yourself against infidels?"

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it?

SF Stormtroopers

Liberals sure are wonderful aren't they. They really do cherish the ideals expounded in the Constitution and would never, ever do anything to counter them. Unless of course those freedoms run counter to to something they want. In which case, never mind.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom hailed new proposed city gun legislation, and he did it Wednesday from the neighborhood most plagued by gun violence.

“Enough is enough,” said Newsom in the city’s Bayview district. “We need common sense gun control.”

Common-sense. Right. Remember that phrase when you read what they actually mean by common-sense gun control.

Another aspect would require all gun owners to store their guns disabled with a trigger lock or placed in a locked-box. Authorities said lock boxes would help to keep legal guns from being stolen and then later used illegally.

The idea, she contends, is to remind legal gun owners how to behave.

The SF authorities know how you should behave in the privacy of your own home. And they damn well mean to enforce it.

"Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way that you conduct your affairs," Harris said.

In short, the government of SF knows better than you and to hell with the Constitution. I'm sure that the local Stormtroopers police are already preparing to invade the homes of gun owners- I mean, you can be sure that they'll prefer a "tactical" entry to a home where there might be a gun present. For safety's sake of course.

Now, if this had come from a Bush Administration official you can be sure that the howls of outrage from liberals about their freedoms being trampled could have been heard across the Atlantic. But no, this is from San Francisco, home of the far left- so expect to hear crickets chirping on the left side of the blogosphere about this one. And does anyone else notice the irony of San Francisco wanting to control what people do in their own homes?

Big hat-tip to Clayton Cramer.

Infiltration

This is a pretty worrying development.

One of the men accused of plotting to attack soldiers at Fort Dix had recently applied to be a police officer in two big cities — a move some authorities believe may have been an effort to infiltrate law enforcement agencies.

Tatar may have also wanted to join the Army, according to conversations recorded in March by an FBI informant during the investigation. A second suspect in the case told the informant that Tatar wanted to join the Army so he could kill soldiers from the "inside," according to a court filing.

"He had only one mind,"
a third suspect, Dritan Duka, told the informant, according to the court documents. "How to kill American soldiers."

As Robert Spencer asks, how many more like him are out there? How many have already infiltrated the police, army or other sensitive jobs and what exactly are they planning?

Amnesty Details

What exactly does the Illegal Alien Amnesty include? You might be surprised-

It creates a new "UNITED STATES-MEXICO BORDER ENFORCEMENT
REVIEW COMMISSION"
(Title I, Section 138) that appears to be a Trojan Horse for more proxy meddling by Mexican consular officials hell-bent on undermining border enforcement and interior enforcement. Members from the law enforcement community will be balanced out by members from "academia, religious leaders, civic leaders or community leaders" (read: the open-borders lobby).

"The bill transforms the federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from a law-enforcement agency into an amnesty-distribution center.
If ICE officials apprehend an alien who appears eligible for the Z visa (in other words, just about any illegal alien), they can't detain him. Instead, ICE must help him apply for the Z visa. Rather than initiating removal proceedings, ICE will be initiating amnesty applications. It's like turning the Drug Enforcement Agency into a needle-distribution network."

"The bill even lets gang members get the amnesty. This comes at a time when violent international gangs have brought mayhem to our cities. More than 30,000 gang members operate in 33 states, trafficking in drugs, arms and people. Deporting illegal-alien gang members has been a top ICE priority. This bill would end that: Under it, a gang member qualifies for the Z-visa privileges as long as he simply signs a "renunciation of gang affiliation."

And that's only a part of it- read the rest at Michelle Malkin's. Could this be why the government is trying to ram this through without any real debate?

ICE Fails

The cost of illegal immigration and the US authorities complete inability to actually do their job.

The man, who called himself Manuel Flores, was arrested February 15 and accused of raping and sodomizing his girlfriend's daughter. According to police documents, he was not able to provide a Social Security number or driver's license. When he was booked into the Denver Jail, he told Officers he was born in Moralos, Mexico.

A Sheriff's Department spokesman says they alerted federal immigration officials that Flores might be an illegal alien, but ICE apparently did not put an immigration hold on him.

The girl he attacked was only nine years old- and thanks to ICE he has been able to escape justice. How long before he crosses back over the US's open border? How many other children will he be able to molest? This despicable crime is one too many- if things continue like this, and the amnesty is passed, I think that a window war will be the least of Republican and Democrat officials worries.

One Punch KO

This is from one of Pavel Tsatsouline's emails that I'm signed up to and is a sample of the kind of information available from a monthly pay newsletter he also offers-

“Throwing a shot (7.25kg or 16 lbs.) is especially effective [for strikers],” states accomplished Russian fighter and coach N. Vasiliev. “One must throw at least 10-12m (33-39 feet). Experience shows that reaching this standard predicts a knock-out punch with a high degree of reliability” The shot weighs as much as a human head and effectively “builds” the punch.”

If only I'd known this a few years ago! My brother used to serve with the Paras and some of the guys he knew in the Regiment were seriously into their weights. He'd asked once about what their goals were and more than one replied that they wanted to be strong enough to punch a guy out with one blow.

And all they had to do was practice throwing a shot put!

Moderate Fatah

I wonder if the bearded men of Gaza are being killed by weapons paid for by the US taxpayer?

Once, Hamas members were afraid to wear beards for fear of being arrested by Israel’s security forces. Today, they are once again afraid of appearing in public with beards - this time for fear that they will be killed or kidnapped by Fatah militiamen in the Gaza Strip.

That would be the same Fatah militia that some politicians in the US think are moderate and much better than those crazy Hamas killers.

Sources close to Hamas said over the weekend that at least 10 bearded men have been shot and killed in the past week after being stopped in the street by Fatah gunmen.

One case was caught on camera and has since appeared on the Youtube Web site. The film shows several Fatah gunmen shooting a bearded man in the legs. As the man lies in a pool of blood in the street crying for help, a Fatah gunman approaches him and fires at his head from an automatic rifle, killing him instantly.

For a moment there it was as if Fatah were just another bunch of psychotic murderers but hey, that can't be right can it? I mean if that were true why would US politicians be taking money from the pay checks of American citizens and giving it to them?

Democrat Corruption

Your tax dollars at work. Democrat Murtha threatens another Congressman and the Dems simply shrug their shoulders.

House Democrats rejected a Republican bid Tuesday to reprimand Rep. John Murtha, a senior lawmaker accused of threatening legislative reprisals against a GOP member who had crossed him…

Note that Murtha has not even tried to deny the allegations- and yet 219 out of 221 Democrats voted for him.

Can you imagine the outrage if a Republican had threatened a Democrat in a similar manner?

In a House speech Monday, Rogers said Murtha threatened him by saying, “you will not get any earmarks now and forever.” Rogers, backed by House GOP leaders, said Murtha’s threat violated congressional ethics rules.

So come on Libs- where's your outrage that America's democratic process be corrupted like this? Should someone be able to threaten other members into voting how they want simply because they hold the purse-strings? Or should your elected representatives be able to vote their conscience?

Amnesty

Have a look and see who voted for cloture on the Illegal Amnesty Fiasco.

It's very telling that John McCain didn't vote and neither did Hillary or Obama. I guess they're leaving room to claim that they were for the amnesty before they were against it. After McCain's recent behaviour his not bothering to vote is particularly interesting. I guess there was a fund-raiser somewhere that was more important to him.

Apartheid City

Dhimmi Watch brings us news of the arrest of a non-Muslim who dared to enter Mecca; the entire city is off limits to infidels.

After his identity became known, the man admitted he was Christian and that he had come to Makkah to earn money. “I heard that Makkah is a safe place, where I could hide my identity,” he said.

Col. Suhail Matrafi, head of the department in charge of Expatriates Affairs in Makkah, compiled a report about the case and presented it to Col. Ayid ibn Taghalib Al-Lukmani, the head of Makkah’s Passport Department. Al-Lukmani has ordered the man be sent to Jeddah.

“The Grand Mosque and the holy city are forbidden to non-Muslims,” said Matrafi.

Almost begs for some city in the West to declare itself forbidden to Muslims, just to see what would happen. I can imagine the outrage here in the West already- particularly from Muslim rights groups. Wonder if any of the same people who'd oppose the idea would be in favour of allowing non-Muslims into Mecca?

Ask your liberal friends what they think of an entire city being posted off-limits because of your religion.

Adult Suckling Part II

An update to the fatwa on adult suckling to enable adults to be alone together- the lecturer has been suspended because of all the media attention.

The lecturer, Ezzat Atiya, had drawn on Islamic traditions that forbid sexual relations between a man and a woman who has breastfed him to suggest that symbolic breastfeeding could be a way around strict segregation of males and females.

In the meantime, the university is looking into the validity of his arguments.

The Dubai-based channel Al Arabiya quoted him as saying after five breastfeedings the man and woman could be alone together without violating Islamic law and the woman could remove her headscarf to reveal her hair.

Yep, she'd be able to reveal the hair on her head after a work colleague had suckled from her breasts five times.Right...

But a committee from al-Azhar said his proposal contradicted the principles of Islam and of morality....

It sure does sound weird but as my earlier post noted, he was drawing on the example of Mohammed when he arrived at his theory. More from Dhimmi Watch-

This bizarre ruling is based, of course, on Muhammad's words.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hadhaifa, lived with him and his family in their house. She (i. e. the daughter of Suhail came to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Salim has attained (purbety) [sic] as men attain, and he understands what they understand, and he enters our house freely, I, however, perceive that something (rankles) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said to her: Suckle him and you would become unlawful for him, and (the rankling) which Abu Hudhaifa feels in his heart will disappear. She returned and said: So I suckled him, and what (was there) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa disappeared. (Sahih Muslim 3425)

Muhammad tells the daughter of Suhail to suckle Salim. This will make her unlawful to him, that is, he won't be able to marry her because he will be her foster child. Thus it will be lawful for him to be in the house with her, and Abu Hudhaifa will no longer be angry.

There are related ahadith here.

Be interesting to see how this one turns out. Perhaps we're looking at the beginnings of a pro and anti-breastfeeding schism?

Global Cooling

Clayton Cramer highlights an excellent refutation of anthropogenic global warming-

"Mars has global warming, but without a greenhouse and without the participation of Martians," he told me. "These parallel global warmings -- observed simultaneously on Mars and on Earth -- can only be a straightline consequence of the effect of the one same factor: a long-time change in solar irradiance."

And there's more-

The real news from Saint Petersburg -- demonstrated by cooling that is occurring on the upper layers of the world's oceans -- is that Earth has hit its temperature ceiling. Solar irradiance has begun to fall, ushering in a protracted cooling period beginning in 2012 to 2015. The depth of the decline in solar irradiance reaching Earth will occur around 2040, and "will inevitably lead to a deep freeze around 2055-60" lasting some 50 years, after which temperatures will go up again.

So if he is right all of the world's politicians currently screaming about increasing temperatures and demanding that something must be done will no doubt be screaming about a coming Ice Age a few years from now. And most likely demand that something be done to prevent it. Kind of like the '70s all over again.

And you know what? I'll guarantee that when it starts to get a little cooler in 2015, no one will look back to now and learn from the current hysteria. A whole new batch of eco-madness will start up and no one will say, "hey, the Earth's temperature fluctuates. Get used to it."

John Rambo

As you all are probably aware there's a fourth Rambo movie out. I'm much more interested in this than in Stallone's Rocky film- I've always liked the Rambo movies and the David Morrell books. Be interesting to see the first one adapted straight to film. Perhaps some day we'll get to see that with the real Starship Troopers? Anyway, I've been nosing around a little the past few hours trying to find out a bit about the Rambo film- I'm particularly interested in the knife he'll be using. Although the hollow handle survival knife didn't play a huge part in the first film, it was more of a "character" in the second. I'm not a fan at all of the Gil Hibben design for the third film- give me one of the Lile originals any day. BTW, if you want to see some high res pictures of the various knives have a look here.

I've heard that Rambo will be packing the same Rambo III blade in this film but I'm not entirely sure if that's correct. In the image below that looks like a completely different design- and a similar slightly curved blade like that can be glimpsed briefly in the trailer. If I had been in charge of picking a blade, he'd be carrying one of Chris Reeves' blades- maybe a 9" Jeroboam with a sawback or a Shadow I. These designs take the hollow handle concept as close to perfection as I can imagine- the knives are crafted from a single piece of A2 tool steel so that there is no blade/handle join or weak spot.

Here's hoping that the movie turns out to be a worthy addition to the series.

St. Trinian's

If you're not familiar with them, the '50s St. Trinian's movies featured an anarchic girl's boarding school. The pupils were so unruly that even the local bobbies were terrified of them. And today it's all pretty innocent stuff. A remake is on the way though, with Rupert Everett replacing Alastair Sim in the dual role of the headmistress and her brother. I'm not quite sure what to expect about a remake of something that seems such a part of its time. This BBC article is quite telling though.

Talulah Riley, who plays one of the unruly pupils, warns: "They will do anything and everything - there's drugs, there's sex, there's tattoos, piercings."

Not quite the same as the original then. But this is very telling of how bizarre modern thinking is-

"It's curious because certain things will be a bit edgier and more challenging than they were, then again in the early films the girls are puffing away on cigarettes and of course you can't do that now," says Parker.

School girls engaging in sex and drugs is fine but to portray them smoking is a big no-no? I don't get it.

Ministry Of Preventative Crime

Welcome to the Left-wing inspired world of Britain's Big Brother.

Council staff, charity workers and doctors could be required by law to tip off police about anyone they believe could commit a violent crime.

There's more-

The Home Office proposals, leaked to the Times newspaper, insist public bodies have "valuable information" that could identify potential offenders.

Possible warning signs could include heavy drinking, mental health problems or a violent family background.

But they aren't just looking for potential criminals here- people who will have committed no crime and yet on the say-so of some government employee made subject to great scrutiny- but also potential victims. So, just about everybody really.

The leaked document states: "Public bodies will have access to valuable information about people at risk of becoming either perpetrators or victims of serious violence."

It says when staff become "sufficiently concerned" about an individual, that person should be should "risk assessed" and, if necessary, referred for further attention.

Mr King suggests two new agencies be created - one to collate reports on potential offenders, the other on potential victims.

And just in case anyone thinks that what other people might be thinking about doing is none of their business, these efforts are going to be made compulsory.

New laws would also be needed to place staff under a statutory obligation to report any concerns, he adds.

So, want to hold down your job? Worried that you might be made a criminal if you don't mention something and then a person you've come into contact with commits a crime or is the victim of a crime? Sounds like a sure-fire recipe for a reasoned and impartial approach. And the question remains unanswered- what will happen to those people who are deemed to be worthy of "further attention"?

Seems to me that the government might be better served tackling actual crime- you know, catching real criminals who have already broken the law and then locking them away so that they can't commit any more crimes- rather than attempting to pre-empt it by creating another massive bureaucracy. The sole purpose of which is to tackle imaginary crimes.

Gays For Anti-Gay Culture

It's always astonished me that the people most opposed to the West waging war on repressive, totalitarian regimes are those who would most likely suffer most under those regimes. Musicians, artists, writers, students, those who generally "champion" being tolerant and open and free to say what they think- the most vocal critics of the war are the very people that our enemy hates the most. These are the people who tend to side with those who would love to silence them. I simply don't understand it. Nowhere is this contradiction more glaringly obvious than in a group called QUIT, Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism.

Yep, a gay group is apparently championing a culture which would like to see them killed. Zombie sums it up best I think-

In Israel, gays live openly and happily in a free and liberal society. There is a thriving gay scene, just as there is in the United States and many other Western democracies.

But in Palestine -- as in most Islamic countries -- being gay is not only frowned upon, it is a crime often punishable by death. Tales of what life is like for gays in Palestinian society are horrifying in the extreme. In fact, gay youth in Palestine frequently flee to Israel if they can get a chance.

So why in the world would gay activists in the most gay-friendly city on Earth protest against one of the other centers of gay liberation (Israel) and for one of the planet's most violently oppressive homophobic societies?

This is the essence of cognitive dissonance -- the condition of holding two differing beliefs that are so incompatible and contradictory that the only way to internally reconcile them is to, well, go insane (to use the layman's term). Because, try as I might, I can't comprehend any other justification for being a member of QUIT other than insanity.

Harry's Non-Deployment

Strategy Page comments on the victory of terrorists over the deployment of Prince Harry to Iraq.

In the case of keeping Cornet Wales from deploying with his unit, it did not take any IEDs. He was kept home via the use of threats by a terrorist whose claims were repeated by the media. Eventually, senior British Army officers flinched. This is a major victory for the terrorists in Iraq – one that did not require a single IED or even a shot.

One notable point that they miss is the collusion of the British Press and the naivety of the MoD. At no point did it seem to occur to anyone involved that publicising Harry's military postings at a time of war would alert the enemy. No one seems to have paused for thought for a moment and demanded a press blackout on this. We the public really didn't need to know the name if the unit he was joining and when and where it was going.

Whatever happened to "loose lips sink ships"? We're at war people and yet the British press thinks it's a great idea to broadcast to our enemy that a Prince is deploying with his unit to the war-zone. What's going on here? Has our press completely lost its ability to not reveal every nugget of information which might aid our enemy?

And during the build-up to the announcement, media pundits were alarmed about the risk that Harry's presence would pose to the men serving with him. They seem to be completely oblivious to their own role in endangering British servicemen going to war. Really, I think they don't even know that telling the enemy when and where Harry was going to be would be harmful.

Adult Suckling

No, really- that title isn't some bizarre typo. And it doesn't appear to be April 1st.

According to an Arabic article in Al-Arabiyya, the Egyptian Parliament is now discussing a fatwa from an Al-Azhar cleric that aims to circumvent the prohibition on a male and a female who are not married to each other from working together in private. All she has to do, you see, is suckle him. Then he becomes her foster child, and they can be together without a chaperone.

The fatwa from Al-Azhar is, of course, based on the life, times and sayings of Mohammed. And as Robert Spence points out- Al-Azhar is one of the most respected Sunni Muslim institutions in the world. This isn't coming from some fringe, crackpot school that no one has ever heard of. Well, I say that but let me once again re-state the argument- a man and woman cannot be together in private unless they are related and so, in order to avoid this, the woman can suckle the man and thus "foster" him. Once the two are so "related" there's no problem for them to be alone together.

I would have thought that the breast sucking might have been a bit extreme, you know, the kind of thing that religious types would frown upon but apparently no:- man and woman working in a professional and entirely innocent manner together is strictly verboten. Man sucks woman's breasts however and voila! Everything's fine.

I wonder if this story will feature on the MSM's "oddly enough" sections?

The 1967 Borders

Charles Krauthammer has a really good piece up on the Six Day War; the event that changed Israel's borders and to which various factions are calling for Israel to once again withdraw to- the fabled 1967 border.

As he so eloquently points out, practically the entire Arab world was poised to destroy Israel when it occupied the pre-1967 territory- and the world stood by and watched as it prepared to do so.

It is hard to exaggerate what it was like for Israel in those three weeks. Egypt, already in an alliance with Syria, formed an emergency military pact with Jordan. Iraq, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Libya and Morocco began sending forces to join the coming fight. With troops and armor massing on Israel's every frontier, jubilant broadcasts in every Arab capital hailed the imminent final war for the extermination of Israel. "We shall destroy Israel and its inhabitants," declared PLO head Ahmed Shuqayri, "and as for the survivors -- if there are any -- the boats are ready to deport them."

And yet it is that state to which some would have Israel return to. And then what? Would the world once again look on, unwilling to help, as Israel's foes tried to wipe an entire nation off the map?

MagPul PDR

Defense Review has some great images of the latest weapon from MagPul, albeit a mock-up: a compact PDW or, as they are terming it, a PDR (Personal Defence Rifle). Produced in 5.56mm, a big advantage over the HK and FN offerings (particularly for troops who may need to share ammunition and use the same supply lines), MagPul state that it could also be offered in 6.5mm Grendel and 6.8mm SPC.

Looks like an interesting design.

The Back

I went to the chiropractor today for the first time in about four years. Used to be that a regular visit there sorted me out but as time went on the beneficial effects wore off- it got to the stage where he'd crack me into shape and a half hour later everything would be twisted back out of place. Well, this past weekend has been bad enough that I sought help again. To be honest, I'd have gone to see a witch doctor if I thought it would do any good.

It went something like this- (looks at my back) "oh, that's awful"...crunch....crunch...crack, crack, crack...pop "ah, something else needs to go" pop.

I feel so different. It's like I've been living in someone else's body lately. Seems that about 99% of my spine was out of alignment- from the base of my back right up to my neck needed to be manipulated. It's all the way it should be now and the nausea that's been plaguing me lately has vanished. Hallelujah! In fact, this is the first day in months (literally months, possibly longer) that I've not needed to take pain-killers by this time of day. I just hope the effect lasts a bit longer.

If you do have back problems take the time to visit a chiropractor. I've seen doctors, specialists, had bone scans, MRI scans, X-rays, seen physiotherapists, acupuncturists, masseurs, and I don't know what else and in all that time the only relief I've had has come from either the pain meds the doc gives me (bless 'em) or the chiropractor. And he's the only one who has actually done any good treating me. The rest have been pretty much hopeless- and I have a special contempt for physios. Once a Navy doctor even lamented that I had injured my back and not broken a leg, because he could have fixed that. It seems to be something of a common view in the medical profession.

US Madrassas

The "smart" thinking continues...

American forces in Afghanistan are building madrassas in an attempt to persuade parents not to send their children across the border to Pakistan for instruction at hard-line religious schools. Work has started on two "super-madrassas" in Paktika, which borders Pakistan, and more are planned. The American government is also paying for the refurbishment of mosques in the area, in the hope of winning over religious leaders.

And all the while they know that these madrassas may be used by radical preachers. But they "hope" that won't be the case.

The US military insists that the schools, which it calls "centres for educational excellence", will be administered by the Afghan education ministry, but admits there is a risk that they will be vulnerable to radical Islamic preachers. Madrassas in Pakistan have frequently been linked to the indoctrination of young Muslim men who have joined the insurgents in Afghanistan or been trained to become terrorists in the West.

But that won't stop this hare-brained scheme from continuing. I was always under the impression that a military's hearts and minds program was supposed to help it, not the enemy.

US Arms To Hamas

Yep, that brilliant plan to arm anti-Israel terror gang Fatah has really paid off, genocidal terror-gang Hamas has stolen some of the US supplied weapons.

Hamas ambushed a convoy in the Gaza Strip on Sunday and seized a stockpile of US weapons transferred in recent months to militias associated with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party, according to Hamas and Fatah sources.

"We obtained the US weapons and will keep hijacking any assistance the Americans provide to Fatah. Our fighters are aware of the American and Israeli conspiracies to topple our government. We're trained and well prepared to defeat the American-backed (Palestinian) agents," said a top member of Hamas' military wing in the Gaza Strip.

It still boggles my mind that anyone in an actual position of authority in the US government can believe that in this day and age it's a good idea to supply weapons to a terrorist organisation, simply because at the moment they happen to be less offensive than another terrorist organisation.

Haven't we grown out of that kind of thinking?

The US Congress last month approved $59 million in aid to Fatah's militias after an earlier Bush administration pledge of $86.4 million was blocked for fear the money might reach terrorist groups. The aid package contains a new qualification stipulating the money must not be used to purchase weapons.

The vast majority of the US aid is slated to bolster Abbas' Force 17 security forces, which serve as de facto police units in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. But many members of Force 17 are openly members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror organization and Israel has arrested wanted terrorists from these units.

Remember, American readers- this is your hard-earned tax dollars at work. Straight from your pocket to a terrorist organisation. This same terrorist organisation:

"We are turning Gaza into south Lebanon," Abu Ahmed, northern Gaza leader for the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group told WND, referring to the area in Lebanon in which Hezbollah built military bases and a large rocket infrastructure.

"We learned from Hezbollah's victory that Israel can be defeated if we know how to hit them and if we are well prepared," Abu Ahmed said. "We are importing rockets and the knowledge to launch them, and we are also making many plans for battle."

The Brigades, the declared military wing of Abbas' Fatah party, took responsibility along with the Islamic Jihad terror group, for every suicide bombing in Israel the past two years.

And yet your government thinks it's a good idea to take your money (nearly $60 million dollars of it) and give it to them.

Coming Back

I haven't been blogging lately because of some rather excruciating back pain. Seems to have settled down a tad now though and I'm beginning to get caught up on my current events again. It's always a depressing thing to do, reading days worth of blogosphere news in one go. By the time I was done it appeared as if I was watching the world at large go absolutely stark raving mad. Too much news in one go can be a bad thing.

Anyway, I seem to be getting back on my feet now so there will hopefully be a bit more activity here.

Gun Ban Effect

Looks like the UK's complete handgun ban is a roaring success.

A TEENAGER was shot three times when robbers burst into his home — to steal his Xbox.

They put a pistol in his mouth and threatened to shoot unless he handed over the £280 games console.

A struggle broke out as he went to fetch the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the victim, 18, was blasted point-blank.

A success for the criminals that is.

A police spokesman said: “It’s fortunate the young man who was shot didn’t die.”

A source added: “You’re talking somebody being robbed and shot in their home for a games console. It’s the sort of thing you’d expect in America, not here. The violence used was extreme."

Yep, only in America the victim might have been able to defend himself from armed robbers invading his home.

Illegal Immigrant Terrorists

Illegal immigrants, sanctuary cities, multiple chances to have thrown terrorists out of the country before their plot came to fruition- the national security of the United States is at stake. Time for the endless debate to end and something to actually be done.

Preferably before US citizens are murdered.

Three brothers charged in the alleged Fort Dix terror plot have been living illegally in the U.S. for more than 23 years and were accepted as Americans by neighbors and friends who had no idea they would scheme to attack military bases and slaughter GIs.

A federal law enforcement source confirmed to FOX News that the three — Dritan "Anthony" or "Tony" Duka, 28; Shain Duka, 26; and Eljvir "Elvis" Duka, 23 — also accumulated 19 traffic citations, but because they operated in "sanctuary cites," where law enforcement does not routinely report illegal immigrants to homeland security, none of the tickets raised red flags.

Now just imagine for a moment that they hadn't gone to that store to have video transferred to DVD- hence the FBI wouldn't have gotten involved in the plot. Without that, they just might have been able to carry out their attack and over the past few days we would have been mourning the dead at Fort Dix. Law enforcement didn't work here- because it wasn't allowed to. It's only blind luck that the right clerk served them and had the wherewithal to report his suspicions.

Now, is it just me but these laws which prevent police officers from doing something about people who have broken the law by coming into the USA without permission (hence the illegal part of illegal immigrant) - aren't they illegal? Surely it can't be legal to prevent law enforcement from enforcing the law of the land?

Can't we have the people who passed these sanctuary city laws arrested? Before their refusal to obey the law gets Americans killed.

Updating

Okay, so blogging has been glacially slow lately- several reasons for that, not least of which has been some crippling back pain. One of these days I really will buy a laptop so that I can blog whenever I'm lying down! Anyway, I've been doing a bit of reading, trying to learn some new things and generally been taking it easy. Strong medication and motivation do not go hand in hand.

I'm all but done with the Lewis and Clark book Undaunted Courage (it really does take me this long to read a book these days- any time I pick it up I generally end up with one of my kids in my lap asking questions and wanting to look at the pictures) and I've ordered a few more exploration tomes- Nathaniel Philbrick's In The Heart of the Sea and Sea of Glory (if I like these then I'll most certainly be getting his book Mayflower too) and a history book- The Oxford History of the American People: Prehistory to 1789. I'm growing increasingly interested in very early American history- the first settlers and explorers (next up will probably be a book on Coronado) and then back to about 12,000 years before; North America had an incredible range of megafauna. Jefferson actually believed that the Lewis and Clark expedition might discover giant ground sloths and mammoths in the interior. In addition to that there used to be dire wolves, rhinos, cheetahs, camels, giant beavers (about 8 feet long) and sabre-tooth cats. Problem is I'm having a hard time finding a decent book on this topic. I'm interested in what the environment was like then, what the newly arrived humans were like and, of course, how the creatures present fared. Suggestions please!

If you happen to have read A Savage Kingdom by Benjamin Woolley let me know if you liked it.

Imagine following the du Toit trail in 12,000BC!

No Stamina

Time to bash Bush-

Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying thousands had died.

"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed," Obama said in a 27-minute speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering art studio for a fundraiser.

The death toll was 12.

Oops. And nevermind that the bones of his argument (that the National Guard has only 40% of its equipment in place because of Iraq) a complete fabrication.

"There are going to be times when I get tired. There are going to be times when I get weary. There are going to be times when I make mistakes," he said.

He's been campaigning for what, a couple of months? What's he going to be like after a year in office? I think this is evidence that Obama needs a good deal more actual experience before running for President.

Grounds For War

Surely this is a clear cut act of war?

All of Hezbollah's policies and activities are coordinated with the leadership of Iran, including the firing of rockets into Israeli population centers for which direct Iranian approval is required, said a senior Hezbollah official in a rare admission.

"Even when it comes to firing rockets on Israeli civilians, when they [Israel] bombed the civilians on our side, even that decision requires an in-principle permission from [the ruling jurisprudent]," said Sheikh Naim Qassem, the deputy chief of Hezbollah, in an Arabic language interview translated yesterday by the Information and Terrorism Center at Israel's Center for Special Studies.

According to the Center, "the ruling jurisprudent," or "al-wali al-faqih" in Arabic, is the title of Supreme Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He said Khamenei approves acts [of] suicide terror.

"We ask, receive answers, and then apply [them]. This is even true for acts of suicide for the sake of Allah – no one may kill himself without a jurisprudent permission (from Khamenei)."

An open admission from a senior Hezbollah leader that Iran approves and co-ordinates their attacks on Israel. Could the "international community" seriously deny that this is grounds for war if Israel so desired it?
