A Christian group in the UK is threatening to use Tony Blair's proposed religious hatred laws to prosecute any bookshop selling the Koran.
The director of the group Christian Voice said "If the Qur'an is not hate speech, I don't know what is. We will report staff who sell it. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that unbelievers must be killed."
This could be interesting- if it goes to court and a judge allows for the teachings of the Koran (like this one- 9:5 “When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, torture them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”) then what exactly is forbidden? If Muslims can preach for the killing and torture if disbelievers what's to stop someone forming a religion which preaches the slaughter of Muslims? Is that speech going to be protected simply because it's "religion"? And surely it must if the courts are going to allow for the Koran. Presumably it's hate speech for an individual to call for attacks on a specific class of people, but what about when they do it under the guise of religion? Is it only hate speech if it's not coming from an imam?
I think that the Labour government is about to open a can of worms.

Have you bothered to read the verses and understand their context or have you just regurgetated what you ahve heard elesewhere. Those verses are refering to people that have treaties with the Muslims of that time that had then broken the treaty. It is also interesting in that you only give half of the translation for the verse the rest being (paraphrased) that if they desist then you should as well.
Yes, I have read them- and so too have the terrorists who daily cite the Koran for the justification for the slaughter they commit in Allah's name. That's the point- there's plenty of material in the Koran which Islamists use to justify what they do- the counter-arguments coming from Muslim scholars to refute this is pretty thin on the ground.
How about this-
Qur’an 2:191 “And kill them wherever you find and catch them. Drive them out from where they have turned you out; for Al-Fitnah (polytheism, disbelief, oppression) is worse than slaughter.”
Oh another verse where you only quote half of it and out of context. You should read 2:190-193 they are all regarding the same thing but if you've read the Quran then you'd already know that. Terrorists justify what they do by whatever means possible distorting the Quran fine, killing people that do something you oppose (abortion clinic bombings by Christian's) fine to them as well.
Qur’an 5:33 “The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and His Prophet and make mischief in the land, is to murder them, crucify them, or cut off a hand and foot on opposite sides."
Qur’an 5:51 “Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends.”
Qur’an 60:5 “We reject you. Hostility and hate have come between us forever, unless you believe in Allah only.’”
Qur’an 48:28 “It is He Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth (Islam), that he may make it superior to every other religion, exalting it over them. Allah is a sufficient Witness. Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah. Those who are with him are severe with Infidel unbelievers.”
Qur’an 9:28 “Believers, truly the pagan disbelievers are unclean.”
Qur’an 9:5 “Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”
Qur’an 9:29 “Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax in submission.”
Qur’an 47:4 “When you clash with the unbelieving Infidels in battle, smite their necks until you overpower them, killing and wounding many of them. At length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind them firmly, making (them) captives. Thereafter either generosity or ransom until the war lays down its burdens. Thus are you commanded by Allah to continue carrying out Jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam.”
I think the Bible is actually pretty clear on killing- "Thou shalt not kill". There's nothing in the New Testament that urges Christians to warfare. On the contrary, there is a great deal of such writing in the Koran. I fail to see how exactly Islamic terrorists are distorting anything.
