Logan's Run

This is sick- arguing against using modern technology and techniques to keep the ill elderly alive for even short periods because it costs too much. The GOP needs to be very clear to the American people that this is what Obama's plans entail- rationed health care. Because at the moment all too many people are hearing is costs going down. It doesn't seem to have occurred to them how those cost savings will be achieved.

Quite old, need an expensive treatment that will only give you an extra year of life with your loved ones? Tough luck and say goodbye Grandpa- bureaucrats in Washington have decided that your extra year isn't worth the money.

So let’s go back to the issue of comparative effectiveness, which we’re supporting. That’s where that can have a big impact. It’s not only there, but that’s where the waste is. That’s where people are using technologies that really either don’t work at all or keep people alive for for very limited [time] and [at] very high cost. Hospice is one option, but we do need take account of the cost — you know, I hate to say it, the cost-benefit of some of the things we do.

I am totally against socialized medicine. If people have to pay their own medical costs, they will do their own cost-benefit analysis.

Spending their own money (or their children's inheritance), most elderly people are not going to pay thousands of dollars daily to extend their life by days or weeks.

Of course government isn’t going spend many thousands of dollars on a person who will be dead shortly either way.

Yeah, and I'm sure the fat cats making these descions will have anybody else looking over their cost-benifits when they get old. What disgusting trolls that we have in power now.
