Flawed Steele

I think I may have missed some important meeting or, at the very least, the memo from it. The way I recall it, the way it was supposed to work was that the defeat of the maverick, moderate, RINO McCain would send a strong message to the Republican Party that their voters wanted staunch conservatives at the helm. Right?

So how do you explain Michael Steele being elected the new chairman of the Party? From David Codrea's latest Gun Rights Examiner-

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what's the point of passing gun laws if we're not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that's where you need to start. We've got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it's about how we enforce the law.

So the new Republican Party chairman is not opposed to an AWB- he just thinks you can use guns for skeet shooting or hunting. Not a word about self-defence for instance. And he continues to trot out the "need" argument and also the "hunting use" canard.

This is supposed to be Republican leadership?

McCain's defeat wasn't a difficult lesson- and yet we have Republicans supporting a tax cheat into Treasury and no opposition to the anti-Second Amendment Eric Holder for AG. It seems that little has been learned.

At this rate there will be a permanent AWB- and in a few years the US will be indistinguishable from Europe. The time to fight for your rights is before they're gone. And your Congress-critters need to hear that loudly and often.
