This is a curious one- the British Consulate in Chicago is the recipient of six red roses every August 1st, the anniversary of the Battle of Minden. No one knows who sends the flowers.
At the Battle of Minden in the Seven Years War, six British regiments and Hanoverian troops near the River Weser outside Hanover advanced on a French army through rose gardens, plucking and attaching the flowers to their coats and hats as they walked.
A nice little story.
