Seems like Israel is to replace its rubber bullets with a new brand made of compressed sand. There are no further details of the new round in the article but if you know of more, do get in touch. It was developed for use by the prison service and is reputedly less lethal than the rubber bullets currently in service. As here in Northern Ireland, there are complaints about the use of rubber (baton) rounds as they can- in some cases- prove fatal. Perhaps it'd be a good idea not to riot then?
The army also routinely uses tear gas and stun grenades against protesters and recently unveiled a machine called The Scream, a device that emits penetrating bursts of sound that leave targets reeling with dizziness and nausea.
Some interesting developments in the past couple years in non-lethal weapons. Perhaps in another decade police and troops engaged in riot control will be packing phasers set to stun?
