Recently released cleric Abu Bakar Bashir (aka Ba'asyir) has given a press conference. When asked if he had a message for John Howard, the Australian Prime Minister, he said,
"I think John Howard should convert to Islam. If he wants to be saved from hell, he needs to convert to Islam and God willing, he will be forgiven by Allah."
He also gave a warning to all Australians to never try fighting Muslims-
"Maybe with God's permission, they can kill us, but they certainly can't beat Islam." He then warned the journalists present not to twist his words.
There's no link to a text story but ABC also has an audio file of Bashir calling Noordin Mohammad Top, one of the Bali bomb attack planners, a "defender of Islam". The same thing he calls Osama Bin Laden.
The JI, the terrorist group responsible for the Bali bomb, and the group to which Bashir was convicted of conspiring with, are still recruiting and training members. Top has apparently threatened more terrorist attacks in video tapes siezed by the authorities in Indonesia.
