Condi Rice seems to have lost her way- and is now acting as an apologist for Mahmoud Abbas. The PA leader was quoted as saying, "I am opposed to armed struggle because we cannot succeed in it, but maybe in the future things will be different."
In other words, we can't defeat Israel through terrorism now, but we may perhaps be able to later. Self-evident to anyone but Rice it would seem-
"We have all had the experience of perhaps saying things that we wish we hadn't said, and I can just tell you that this is somebody who for many, many years now has rejected violence as a means to statehood," Rice said, noting that Abbas had later said the comments were taken out of context.
It's astonishing how many politician's words are "taken out of context", generally meaning that they said something they really meant and are now desperately backtracking to cover it up.
Perhaps Condi needs to pay a little closer attention to her "partner in peace" to discover if perhaps there's some clue as to what Abbas really thinks. You know, like finding out what Fatah is broadcasting on their official TV station- like advocating terrorist attacks against American troops. Or promoting terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians.
Or stuff like this- promoting a terrorist who, amongst other things, was guilty of murdering 241 American Marines in Lebanon-
Senior Hezbollah terrorist Imad Mughniyeh has been placed on a pedestal of glory in various articles in the official Palestinian Authority Fatah daily.
One article by a senior Fatah leader describes Mughniyeh as an “extraordinary hero... unequaled Hezbollah commander ... a beacon of light.”
The Palestinian Authority has glorified his years of murder as heroic. It describes him repeatedly as a “Shahid” (Islamic Martyr), the highest Islamic status, and has run his photo with that caption. He is crowned the “Knight of Lebanese Resistance.”
The PA newspaper, assuming it was Israel who killed him (Israel has denied involvement in the killing), refers to Israel as “the treacherous Zionist enemy,” reiterates the PA’s “rage and hatred” for Israel and promises more “resistance (the PA euphemism for terror) ... the blow which will hand over death.”
Any clues there Condi? Any hint that perhaps America shouldn't be handing over $100 million of taxpayers' money now, with another $50 million to come- you know, some tiny indication that perhaps the PA is in favour of killing American soldiers and destroying Israel?
This is Condi's idea of diplomacy- giving American money to an outfit encouraging people to kill American troops? Disgusting.
